Caridina multidentata
Named after legendary aquascaper Takashi Amano, these are the best algae-eating shrimp available. Larger and more voracious than cherry shrimp, they make short work of hair algae.

Very difficult in home aquariums. Larvae require brackish water to survive, then transition to freshwater as adults. Most are wild-caught.
Diet & Feeding
Omnivore — primarily algae (especially hair algae and black beard algae). Also accepts shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables, biofilm.
Natural Habitat
Native to Japan and Taiwan. Found in freshwater streams that flow to the ocean (larvae need brackish water).
Care Tips
The gold standard for algae control — nothing eats hair algae like amanos
Larger than cherry shrimp — safer with more fish species
Notorious for stealing food and running away with it
Will not breed in freshwater — larvae need brackish conditions
Can escape tanks — ensure tight-fitting lid
