Energetic, hardy schooling fish that are among the easiest to keep. Zebra danios are the original aquarium 'starter fish' and are used extensively in scientific research.

Very easy. Egg scatterers. Will spawn readily in groups. Provide marbles or mesh at the bottom to protect eggs from being eaten.
Diet & Feeding
Omnivore — flakes, micro pellets, frozen foods, live foods. Not picky eaters. Feed 1-2 times daily.
Natural Habitat
Native to South and Southeast Asia. Found in a variety of habitats from fast-flowing streams to rice paddies.
Care Tips
Extremely hardy — can tolerate a wider temperature range than most tropicals
Very active swimmers — need a longer tank with open swimming space
Excellent cycling fish for new tanks (though fish-in cycling is debated)
Prefer cooler water (64-78°F) — great for unheated indoor tanks
